STARTING WITH YORUBA · GROWING THROUGH PEOPLE

Language, with its
meaning intact.

Explore English and Yoruba words and phrases from Ede’s corpus. Follow the sources, keep the tone marks, and help improve what comes next.

Tone marks matter. Yoruba search preserves accents and underdots; it does not silently replace them.

THE YORUBA DICTIONARY

Explore words, meaning by meaning.

Sourced headwords only. Open a word to see its meanings together. Prefix matching keeps tone marks and underdots; the list uses Unicode order.

Yoruba comes first. Swahili is planned after the Yoruba sourcing, review and dictionary workflows are established.

HELP BUILD THE RECORD

Your language.
Your knowledge.

Suggest a translation or correction. Add dialect and context so an editor can understand your meaning.

Submissions enter a private review queue. Saving a submission does not make it verified or publish it to the dictionary.

TRUST STARTS WITH WHAT WE KNOW

A growing corpus, with honest labels.

Imported ≠ verified

Imported records are labelled unverified. Historical confidence numbers and generated grammar metadata are not evidence of a speaker’s review.

Sources stay visible

Each record shows its available source information. Some recovered records have only artifact-level provenance; missing upstream attribution and licences are explicitly unknown.

Context before claims

Corpus phrases are not automatically dictionary definitions, usage examples, or generated translations. Editor review is separate from native-speaker verification.

No bulk dataset export is offered here. Upstream licences must be audited before redistribution. Dictionary definitions and included usage examples are adapted from English Wiktionary contributors via Wiktextract / Kaikki under CC BY-SA 4.0. Read source attribution and changes. The public lookup API is documented at /openapi.json.

Open the dedicated reviewer portal to review words, meanings and synonym proposals.

Editor review

Authorized editors can review pending submissions. This marks an entry as editor-reviewed, not native-speaker verified.
